The predecessor of School of Public Administration and Law of Chang'an University was the Political (Chinese) Discipline Committee established in 1953. It has experienced important stages such as the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Office, the Social Science Course Office, the Humanities and Social Sciences Department, and the Humanities and Social Sciences College. In November 2009, School of Politics and Administration was established on the basis of the Department of Public Administration and the Department of Law of the former School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the MPA Education Center of Chang'an University and the Chang'an Cultural Industry Research Center. In October 2018, it was renamed the School of Public Administration and Law.
The School has more than 40 faculty members, including 8 professors and 14 associate professors; 15 Ph.D, 3 Ph.D students; 23 master tutors; and 3 school-level well-known teachers.The School has doctoral degree conferring stations of second-level disciplines in Environmental and Social Development, 2 master's degree conferring stations of first-level disciplines in Public Administration and Law, 1 Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree authorization station, 3 undergraduate majors in law, administration, and public service management.
The School now has 12 talent training programs and scientific research institutes, i.e. Department of Public Utilities Management, Department of Administration, Department of Law, MPA Education Center of Chang'an University, Evaluation Research Center of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences of Chang'an University, Institute of Government Governance, Institute of Public Policy, Institute of Governance of Modern University, Institute of Economic Law, Institute of Environmental Resources Law, Institute of Civil and Commercial Law, Institute of Constitutional and Administrative Law; and 2 teaching assistant institutions, i.e. a library and a comprehensive laboratory.The School Library has more than 40,000 books and more than 300 varieties of newspapers and periodicals.The School has a number of laboratories, such as physical evidence technology, simulation court, human resources assessment, e-government, and virtual reality decision-making laboratory, which can better meet the teaching and research needs of the School's majors and disciplines.
The School adheres to the philosophy of teaching quality as the lifeline and takes the discipline construction as the opportunity, scientific research and innovation as the driving force, and the high-quality talents as the goal.In recent years, the school has undertaken more than 50 provincial and ministerial-level projects such as the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) Project and the Ministry of Education's "10th Five-Year Plan" key projects; It has won 2 awards for excellent lessons initiated by the Ministry of Education, 1 second-class award for national teaching achievements, 2 special awards for provincial teaching achievements, 2 first-class awards for provincial teaching achievements, 2 first-class awards for provincial excellent lessons, and more than 20 academic monographs (textbooks) and 200 academic papers published, many of which have been reproduced and abstracted by Chinese Social Science Digest, Xinhua Digest and Copy Materials of Renmin University of China . The School attaches great importance to academic exchanges and actively participates in academic exchange activities at home and abroad. At the same time, it has hired many famous domestic scholars to lecture at the School and hold regular academic conferences.
